George Clayton Atkinson

David A. Quine has been a keen naturalist since his schooldays. He has had a long-standing interest in Scottish islands - St Kilda in particular - which he has visited many times since 1977. He is the author of three books on St Kilda; one a general description, the second about the people and the third a guide to the archipelago. His interest in birds and islands has taken him to the pembrokeshire islands, the Hebrides, the Orkneys, Shetlands, Fair Isles, Faeroes, Iceland, Lofoten and Spitzbergen. In 1980 he was elected fellow of the Linnean Society. Retired from teaching, he now lives in the Lake District, enjoying writing, travelling and water-colour painting.
