David Hey

David Hey is Emeritus Professor of Local and Family History at the University of Sheffield, where he taught in the Division of Adult Continuing Education. His recent books include A History of Sheffield (Carnegie, 2010), The Oxford Companion to Family and Local History (ed., OUP, 2010), The Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths (Carnegie, 2010) and Derbyshire: A History (Carnegie, 2008). His is also the joint author of G.Redmonds, T. King and D. Hey, Surnames, DNA and Family History (OUP, 2011) and D. Hey, L. Liddy and D. Luscombe (eds), A Monastic Community in Local Society: The Beauchief Abbey Cartulary (Royal Historical Society, 2011). He is President of the British Association for Local History and Chairman of the British Record Society. He and his wife live in Dronfield Woodhouse. They have two grown-up children and a granddaughter.
